Every day’s a new day, these days!

Tips for putting your business’ value in front of customers.

It’s a tough time to be in business. Mandates related to the COVID-19 pandemic shift relentlessly. Customers are confused about what is and isn’t available to them. They need answers. Businesses that provide clarity are winning.

Here are my top tips for re-engaging customers online, whether you’ve been absent from the marketplace or trying to stimulate more interest as new competitors enter your space.

  1. Decide which messages are relevant. Start with the basics. Physically open or online only? Hours of operation. State how you’re keeping them safe. Products or services of particular interest under the current circumstances. Reassurance that you’re thinking ahead for them and remain focused on their needs.
  2. Maximize Search Engine Optimization (SEO). SEO has everything to do with attracting the right visitors to your website. Do that by providing content and information that your audiences are specifically looking for. Search engines measure how much time users spend with content. The longer you keep them engaged on your website (with relevant content), the more the search engine prioritizes your business in its search rankings. The closer to the top of the search results, the more potential customers will click on your business.
  3. Advertise. Give potential customers several opportunities to interact with your ads. Consider search engine ads that put your business in front of motivated buyers as part of the mix. When people see ads of interest in multiple places, it increases the likelihood they’ll click and learn more. This also works to show existing customers your business is vital and ready to serve them. Make sure your website landing page(s) are ready to pay off your ads with relevant content (see #1).
  4. Engage via social media. This is the hardest one to do well. Set a routine for where, how often and when you post. Create relevant informational content that reinforces your ads. Invite your followers and potential new customers to comment on and share tips and anecdotes. Experiment with ways to show your support for what your customers are experiencing in their lives or business.

Don’t overthink this! Everybody’s brain is working overtime right now. Be the business that “gets it,” and makes your customers’ lives simpler and better. Reach out. They’ll see you have their best interest in mind. That’s the best competitive edge there is!
